Millet Breakfast Balls is an easy to make breakfast/ snack recipe. As millets are very nutritious and have lots of health benefits, including millets is unavoidable.

Instead of making usual idli, dosa, upma or khichdi, try out this millet breakfast balls. It tastes nice and very easy to make.

Instant Millet Breakfast Balls
We try this recipe with Barnyard, Foxtail, Little, Proso or Kodo millet. Dry roast millet till nice aroma (5 minutes) and soak. Then make this recipe within 10 minutes.
Now a days, most of us having some health issues one or the other. That’s why we search for an alternate to usual polished rice, refined wheat flour etc. I ended up with millets, especially with positive millets.

This recipe is one of my millet tries. Using simple tips and tricks, you could also make your own millet recipe collections to help you and your family.
Ingredients and substitutions
Foxtail Millet – I generally prefer foxtail millet as it is hard to cook as whole while compared to other millet. But we may use Barnyard, Foxtail, Little, Proso or Kodo millet.
Coconut – Coconut is the taste enhancer and hero of the recipe.
Salt – Salt is added for seasoning.
Water – Water is used to soak and grind the millet.

- Dry roast millet in medium flame till nice aroma. Transfer it to a bowl and add water. Leave it for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, wash this (dry roasted and soaked) millet 4 to 5 times (till clear water). Add it to a blender/ mixer grinder with grated coconut and salt. Grind it to a slightly coarse thick dough with little water. Add water little by little while grinding. Because the millet is soaked so it does not require too much water. Adjust salt as per taste.
- Boil water in a sauce pot. In the meantime, make small balls from the millet dough. When the water comes to roiling boil, add the millet balls one by one. Don’t mix immediately. When the millet ball is cooked well then it starts floating. Let the balls float. Keep the flame in high while adding the balls. Cook for 5 more minutes in low flame. Turn off the stove.
- In a bowl add some millet balls and pour the sauce (kanji, the water used to cook the balls). Enjoy our tasty healthy instant millet breakfast balls.
Note
Add one ball first and wait for 2 minutes to ensure that the balls not dissolve in water. If the dough is too coarse or not a thick dough then the balls will break.
How to make Instant Millet Breakfast Balls with stepwise pictures?

Tips
Add one ball first and wait for 2 minutes to ensure that the balls not dissolve in water. If the dough is too coarse or not tight the balls will break. If so then add 1 teaspoon of besan flour or grind 1 teaspoon of soaked moong dal and add.
