Ingredients
- Broken Wheat – ½ cup
- Boiled Milk – ½ litre
- Sugar/ Jaggery – ¼ cup (as per taste)
- Poppy Seeds (Khus Khus) – 1 teaspoon
- Cashews – Few
- Ghee – 1 teaspoon
- Elaichi powder – ½ teaspoon
- Saffron – 1 pinch (optional)
How to make Broken Wheat Kheer?
Take Broken Wheat/ Samba Rava/ Dalia in a bowl and add hot boiling water to it so that the broken wheat and water are in same level (just immersed in water). Leave it for 10 minutes.

In the meanwhile boil milk in a heavy bottomed pan. Once the milk started boiling add the soaked broken wheat/ samba rava/ dalia. Give it a good mix and cook this for 15 minutes in low flame. Stir in between.
In a mixer jar, add poppy seeds and 2 (only two) cashews with little water and grind them to a fine smooth liquid. Add this to the Kheer. Mix well and cook for another 10 minutes so that the raw flavor of poppy seeds and cashews are well eliminated. Stir in between otherwise this will stick to the bottom.
Add sugar/ jaggery and elaichi powder to the kheer. Give them a good mix so that sugar/ jaggery is combined well with the kheer. Add saffron and a pinch of salt to enhance the taste of the kheer. Let them boil for 20 seconds and transfer to a serving bowl.
Roast cashews in ghee and add it to the kheer. Our healthy delicious kheer is ready now.
Tips
- Choose fine broken wheat/dalia or else grind broken wheat/ dalia in whiper mode for 10 seconds before soaking.
- Don’t add too much of poppy seeds and cashews paste as smaller amount of these ingredients will give a thick consistency to the kheer.
- If you are adding jaggery then add it after you turned off the stove and the kheer mix is slightly warm. Otherwise the milk might curdle.
- Stir in between through out the process because all the ingredients we are adding, tends to stick to the bottom.
- Take a heavy bottomed pan so as to avoid sticking at the bottom.

Soak dalia in hot boiling water for 10 minutes.
Add this soaked dalia to boiling milk and cook for 15 minutes in low flame.
In the mean time, grind poppy seeds & 2 to 3 cashews to a fine smooth paste. Add this paste to the cooked dalia, adjust consistency by adding more milk and let them boil together so that all raw flavor goes.
Roast some cashews in ghee and add it to our hot kheer. Add a pinch of saffron to enhance taste and flavor (optional). Enjoy our hot & tasty dalia kheer.
