Now a days, variety of millets vermicelli are easily available to us. So include this millets vermicelli in our diet regularly and enjoy its benefits.
Upma is a breakfast/ dinner which we could prepare in just 15 minutes. A simple coconut chutney will accompany well with this upma. Instead of our usual Rava upma, try this barnyard vermicelli upma. It tastes really good.

Preparing recipes with instant millet vermicelli is easy. Because it cooks quickly. Just soak the instant vermicelli for 5 minutes and cook it in steam for another 5 minutes. Then add seasonings and mix it with this steamed vermicelli. Tada! Our healthy breakfast is ready to serve.

Soaking more than 5 minutes will lead the vermicelli to dissolve in water. So avoid oversoaking. Likewise, steam the soaked vermicelli only for 5 minutes. Otherwise the vermicelli becomes sticky dough.
Before adding the steamed vermicelli, make sure that it has cooled completely. Otherwise, it becomes sticky and taste like kanji (boiled flour mix). So, be careful on these steps to get a non-sticky, noodles like upma.
Take the instant vermicelli in a wide bowl. Add water to immerse the vermicelli. Soak for 5 minutes (only 5 minutes). Then steam the soaked vermicelli in an idli pot or in a steamer for 5 minutes (only 5 minutes). Take this out and pour normal water over it to reduce heat instantly. Keep it aside to cool.

Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Now add finely chopped onion, green chilly, curry leaves & broken cashew nut into it. Saute till the onions become translucent.

Add salt and mix well. Then add steam cooked instant barnyard millet vermicelli into it.

Mix well and close the lid. Let it cook in low flame for 5 minutes.

Remove from flame. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with coconut chutney.

Steam it for 5 minutes in idli pot/ steamer. Then let it cool completely.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. Let it splutter.
Now add finely chopped onion, green chilly, broken cashew nuts, asafetida & curry leaves. Saute till onions become translucent.
Then add salt & the cooled vermicelli into it and mix well.
Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes in low flame. Turn off the stove. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with coconut chutney.
